Is SmartScout legit? The company behind it

SmartScout is a paid Amazon research service, and its own pages name the company behind it: the Terms of Use say the website is operated by Smartest Seller LLC of Logan, Utah. The About page gives 2019 as the year founded and 2011 as the BuyBoxer origin, and it names Scott Needham as CEO and founder.

The About page says SmartScout grew out of the systems the BuyBoxer team used to analyze markets, brands and competitors. Those company facts come from SmartScout's own Terms and About page. The About page also quotes a count of operators using SmartScout, which is the vendor's claim.

What the SmartScout Terms promise and limit

As read on October 29, 2026, Basic is $49 a month on the Monthly view and $29 a month on the Yearly view, charged as $348 for the year. A new customer can ask for a full refund within the first 7 days of the account, once, in writing, on any of the three priced plans.

Two other Terms rules matter once you pay. Each account belongs to one individual and may not be shared, so a second person needs a second seat at $49 for each additional user, a price whose billing basis SmartScout's plan grid does not state. And the Terms call SmartScout's sales and revenue figures estimates only, not sourced from or endorsed by Amazon.

How far those estimates hold is the subject of is SmartScout accurate.

Where SmartScout pages disagree with each other

Its pricing page and Terms describe a 7-day money-back guarantee, while some other SmartScout pages say "free trial", so we describe only the guarantee; SmartScout free trial sets out the conditions. The pricing page also calls its pricing "Risk-Free", while the Terms attach conditions to the refund.

SmartScout's wholesale page, comparison page and pricing page quote three different sets of plan prices, so we use only the pricing page.

Who should pick another research tool

Pick SellerAmp SAS if you want a free trial before paying anything: it gives 14 days on every plan, then $19.95 a month on Getting Started. It is a per-product profit checker for sourcing.

Pick SellerSprite if you want a product research plan: it gives a free 3-day trial of its monthly plan, and its Basic plan is $39 a month on monthly billing. Stay with SmartScout if your research starts from brands or sellers and the refund conditions above suit you. The plan-by-plan view is in the SmartScout review.
