How to find Amazon sales of a product from its sales rank

Last reviewed October 29, 2026

Quick answerAmazon shows a product's Best Sellers Rank but not its unit sales. Enter the rank and category in a sales estimator for a monthly figure, then check it in a second tool before you buy stock.

Find the Best Sellers Rank of a product

To find Amazon sales of a product, read its Best Sellers Rank (BSR) and turn it into a monthly estimate, because Amazon shows the rank on the listing, not exact unit sales. Amazon says you can often find a product's BSR on its product detail page, and a product can carry more than one BSR number when it sits in several categories.

Amazon says it calculates the rank from sales volume data, that recent sales count more than older sales, and that page views and customer reviews do not influence it. Amazon adds that a rank does not necessarily indicate product quality, and its Best Sellers page says the lists are updated frequently.

Turn sales rank into a monthly sales estimate

An estimator takes a country or marketplace, a category and the rank, and returns estimated sales for a month. Amazon's guide says estimators use rankings, past sales and other factors.

  1. Open the listing and note the rank and its category.
  2. Enter both into an estimator.
  3. Read the monthly figure as a modeled estimate, not a count.
  4. Check whether the listing shows Amazon's own rough range of units bought in the past month.

SmartScout's Sales Estimator takes a category and a Best Sellers Rank and returns estimated monthly sales. SmartScout says it starts from sales rank, then cross-checks against external data and direct sales signals from large brands. Its page says it is available on every plan, and the tool needs an account.

Free Amazon sales estimators and what they ask for

Amazon's guide names free estimators from Jungle Scout, Helium 10 and AMZScout.

  • AMZScout asks for a country, a category and the BSR, and returns an estimated average monthly sales figure.
  • Helium 10 asks you to sign up for a free account to unlock unlimited searches, so a search counter applies. It says its estimate also uses keyword rankings, search volumes and conversion rates, and calls rank-only estimators rudimentary, a claim that favors its own paid tools.
  • Jungle Scout is named too, and its help center describes an in-app estimator that takes a marketplace, a category and the BSR.

Are Amazon sales estimates accurate?

No estimate is exact. SmartScout's estimator page says no tool can be exact, because Amazon does not publish unit sales, and calls its figure a directional starting point to check.

Each accuracy claim is a vendor claim. SmartScout says it is within 80 to 90 percent on most brands and products, and that about 5 percent of products have no rank and so no estimate. Jungle Scout's own 2019 study ranks Jungle Scout first among the tools it tested, and SmartScout was not one of them. Is SmartScout accurate goes through the vendor claims.

To check an estimate, run the same product through two tools and compare both with your own Seller Central numbers for products you sell.

When a paid sales estimator is worth it

One product at a time needs no paid tool: the listing's rank, a free estimator and Amazon's units-bought range cover it.

A paid estimator pays off when the question spans many products. An online arbitrage seller with a long supplier price list would otherwise key each rank into a calculator by hand, while SmartScout's UPC Scanner returns revenue estimates and rank for every line of an uploaded list. SmartScout's Sales Estimator is included on every plan, from Basic at $49 a month on the Monthly view ($29 a month on the Yearly view, paid as $348 for the year, as read on October 29, 2026). The 7-day money-back guarantee on Basic is for new customers, once per customer. The best free Amazon product research tools lists the no-cost options first.
