The free Amazon competitor analysis tools are Keepa's price history charts for one rival listing, the public SmartScout Seller Map preview and Helium 10's free tools. Amazon Brand Analytics adds search data for your own brand if you hold a Professional selling plan, $39.99 a month, and a Brand Registry role.

An Amazon competitor research tool is optional for a first check. Amazon's own pages show other sellers' offers from the Other sellers on Amazon widget on a listing, and Amazon's keyword guide tells sellers to read the titles, bullet points and descriptions of best-selling products like theirs. The Amazon Seller app can compare competitor offers by ASIN or barcode, and the Best Sellers list ranks products by sales.

What each free competitor tool shows

Helium 10's Market Tracker follows a market of keywords and competing ASINs: 3 markets on Platinum and 5 on Diamond, as a lifetime limit. Helium 10 sizes plans by the seller's yearly sales. Jungle Scout's competitive intelligence is not on Starter or Growth Accelerator. Sales and revenue figures in these tools are modeled estimates.

Brand Analytics for registered brand owners

Brand Analytics needs a Professional selling account and a Brand Representative role, a person's role on a brand enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, which Amazon describes as a free program. Top Search Terms lists the keywords shoppers use, with the top three products, categories and brands for each. Search Query Performance shows query volume, impressions, clicks, cart adds and purchases for your brand.

Access is tied to a brand you represent, and the tool does not show another seller's unit sales, so a seller without a registered brand needs another route.

When a paid competitor analysis tool is worth it

A wholesale seller with a brand list also wants to know who already sells each one. The free route is one listing at a time. SmartScout Brand Sellers, from Essentials at $119 a month on the Monthly view, lists the sellers under a brand in one place, and Product Sellers, from Business, lists all sellers of one product with their history on that listing.

Business also adds the Sellers Database, Subcategory Brand Market Share and the full Seller Map. Search Terms Ad Spy is an add-on on Business and included on Enterprise, with no price printed. SmartScout's Terms call its figures estimates to treat as directional.
